Autumn Budget: What You Need to Know
The government has announced new rules for energy bills and benefits. Here is how it affects your money:
Help with Energy Bills
£100 Winter Payment: If your house is in Council Tax bands A to D, you will get a £100 payment sent straight to your bank account starting January 2027.
No VAT on Electricity: You won't pay VAT tax on your electricity bills until July 2027.
Gas Bills Are Changing: The daily fix charge (standing charge) on gas bills will be removed by late 2027. You will only pay for the gas you actually use. This will lower bills for most households, but larger families who use a lot of gas might pay more.
Changes to Benefits
Carer’s Allowance: If you earn a little bit over the earnings limit, you won't lose your whole allowance anymore. Instead, your payment will go down gradually the more you earn. Keep in mind, this change won't happen until 2030.
