Celebrating National Lottery Funding

We are celebrating being awarded 5 years funding from the National Lottery to support our provision of advice and information across the Borough.

The funding, totalling over £400,000, will be used to provide advice and information in 12 outreach locations, ensuring that people, especially families, people with disabilities, ex-offenders and those experiencing financial hardship can access advice easily.

Citizens Advice has been around the borough for 85 years and we rely on the generosity of volunteers, working alongside a number of paid staff, to provide a range of support to anyone in the borough.

Citizens Advice offers a holistic advice service through multiple channels, including face-to-face services, a telephone helpline, and support via email. Advice and information is provided in matters such as welfare benefits, debt, employment, housing, family and personal.

Lisa Kidston, Chief Officer says: “We’re delighted that the National Lottery Community Fund has agreed to fund our project. As an independent, local charity, we rely on grant funding to provide advice services to our residents. We know from experience that many people find it easier to get advice in a place they are familiar with and this funding will help us put advice back into the community. Citizens Advice provides quality assured information and advice to anyone who needs it. We aim to empower people to find a way forward, whatever their problem. In today’s climate, free, confidential, impartial advice is more important than ever”.

The National Lottery Community Fund recently launched its strategy, ‘It starts with community’, which will underpin its efforts to distribute at least £4 billion of National Lottery funding by 2030.

In 2023/24,  the National Lottery Community Fund awarded over half a billion pounds (£686.3 million) of life-changing funding to communities across the UK, supporting over 13,700  projects to turn their great ideas into reality.
